Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality – Clinical practice guidelines – full text available online; nation’s leading Federal agency for health care quality, costs, outcomes & patient safety
American Hospital Directory - Online directory of information on hospitals in the U.S.
National Cancer Institute – Government site on cancer; includes latest diagnosis, staging & treatment information that is updated monthly; links to clinical trials and PDQ (Physicians’ Data Query); links to support and resources
Center for Disease Control – CDC – Government site that is updated daily with authoritative information on diseases; includes public health information on influenza or other disease trends; availability of shots, alerts on the latest disease outbreaks; statistics and fact sheets on various diseases
Clinical Trials – Lists existing clinical trials for various diseases; gives eligibility & contact information; can focus search by disease, location, treatment, sponsor.
Consensus Development Reports – Reports from a Federal agency that organizes conferences to produce consensus statements & state-of-the-art statements on controversial issues in medicine.
Food and Drug Administration – U.S. government site; provides authoritative information on drugs and food especially food safety; has food and drug alerts
HealthWeb – Subject links to quality websites; comprehensive coverage in all areas of medicine; provides quick, easy access to Internet sites in all areas of medicine
Medline Plus – National Library of Medicine’s site reliable, quality information for health professionals and consumers with links to federal agencies, lists of hospitals & physicians; dictionaries, encyclopedia, and Spanish language materials, patient education materials, drug information from U.S. Pharmacopoeia, links to organizations and government agencies.
Medscape – Medical news in all areas of medicine and divided up by medical specialty; updated daily
National Institutes of Health (NIH) – U.S. government site; provides authoritative information on health topics and provides links to government health agencies and information on the latest health research projects.
Oncolink – University of Pennsylvania site on cancer information; links to other reliable cancer sites; book & video reviews; online books; links for coping with cancer.
PDQ (Physicians Data Query) – National Cancer Institute database that contains the latest information about cancer diagnosis and treatment, screening, prevention, genetics, supportive care, plus clinical trials.
PubMed – Medline & other biomedical journal databases from the National Library of Medicine – free public access; links to free full text of a small selection of journal titles.
Virtual Hospital – Digital health sciences library from the University of Iowa Health Care; has whole range of medical information for both health professionals and consumers; includes fact sheets and images.
WebMD – Medical news for the public that is updated daily; medical reference databases, medical imagery, graphics & animation; interactive tools; live web events.
